62nd IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Associations) General Assembly - Chile

The Conference took place at the Catholic University of Chile, in Santiago, between August 01-07th, 2013. This year, as part of the recently established "ISfTeH & IFMSA Partnership", the ISfTeH (International Society of Telemedicine & eHealth) organized an "eHealth Symposium", on August 1st.

I was invited as an ISfTeH FLOSS Working Group representative, together with Mr. Frank Lievens and Mr. Adolfo Sparenberg, ISfTeH Board Members.

The "ISfTeH & IFMSA eHealth Symposium", on August 1st, counted with both our local and remote presentations by very active and recognized ISfTeH members: Dr. Etienne Saliez, Dr. Monika Hübler, Eng. Thomas Karopka.

On August 2nd we attended 2 sessions:

- IFMSA GA WG Session on Public Health Strategies: Where I presented the GNU Health Project and Adolfo Sparenberg presented the Public Telecardiology Project RS State/Brazil. The focus of this session was to introduce new opportunities and strategies which can contribute to the improvement of public health assistance. Around 40 IFMSA delegates, representing different countries, were part of the audience.

- IFMSA Telemedicine Session- Round table meeting at the Catholic University of Chile: This activity was characterized as a practical activity aiming to identify students interested in telehealth matters and also as an attempt to organize a group of IFMSA national members for the establishment of an "eHealth working group".

Luz verde en Bahía Blanca

En sintonía con su política digital y de gobierno abierto, la ciudad de Bahía Blanca inició los preparativos para implementar GNU Health en el Hospital Municipal de Agudos "Dr. Leónidas Lucero". Personal administrativo, médico, informático y de enfermería de este centro hospitalario se reunieron con representantes de las empresas Uníxono (Bahía Blanca) y Thymbra para sentar las bases del proyecto.

















En esta primera jornada de trabajo se discutieron las principales características del sistema GNU Health y su adaptabilidad a las necesidades concretas del nosocomio. Luis Falcón mostró en detalle la funcionalidad del sistema y junto con el equipo de Uníxono consiguieron resolver las distintas inquietudes planteadas. A su vez, el carácter intersectorial del encuentro enriqueció sin dudas las discusiones, confirmando una vez más que el hospital representa un suelo fértil para la iniciativa. 


Además de Luis Falcón (Thymbra), Nicolás Pace y Gabriel Hernández (Uníxono), esta primera reunión contó con la participación de Josefina Medrano (Dirección del Hospital), Marcelo Marino (Gestión y Planeamiento), Silvina Gherardi (Jefa del Depto. Compras) y Adriana Toso (Dep. de Sistemas), entre otros. 
Se sumaron asimismo el Dr. Eduardo de Gaetano (Auditor Interno), Julia Custodio (Depto. Estadistica) y FrancoSoresi, miembro del equipo de Gobierno Abierto de Bahía Blanca. Por su parte, también estuvo presente el Gerente de Sistemas del centro de salud, Marcelo, quien sería uno de los principales vínculos y agentes facilitadores para la ulterior implementación de GNUHealth.

Cercado por las avenidas Estomba y Vieytes, el Hospital Municipal cumple ya 116 años al servicio de la comunidad, siempre en pos del desarrollo de actividades sanitarias y asistenciales para la población, mas con criterios de universalidad, accesibilidad y equidad. 

Actualmente cuenta con 79 camas y ofrece atención en más de 20 servicios clínicos, casi una decena de servicios quirúrgicos y varios servicios de diagnóstico.

Datos abiertos para una gestión eficiente y accesible

En los últimos años, el gobierno de Bahía Blanca ha dado pasos históricos en la digitalización de sus prácticas, así como en la apertura y sistematización de datos públicos. Por lo tanto, la decisión de implementar GNU Health en este centro de salud lejos está de ser aleatoria, sino que se inscribe dentro de una política pública de transparencia y gobierno abierto. 
Otra iniciativa en este apartado fue la creación de un Portal de Datos Abiertos, el cual contiene diversos tipos de información sistematizada en formatos abiertos, disponible para descargar, modificar, reutilizar y reinterpretar.

De acuerdo con estos datos oficiales, la ciudad de Bahía Blanca atiende más de 330 mil consultas anuales en el área de salud, en su mayoría de pacientes femeninas.

Los 10 diagnósticos o prácticas más frecuentes en Bahía Blanca desde enero hasta septiembre del 2013:


Más aún, los principales diagnósticos o prácticas mencionadas corresponden aproximadamente al 36% del total registrado en un año.

Informática y Ciencias Sociales se encuentran en la experiencia Tryton

La sede argentina de la Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) le abrió las puertas a la rama de desarrollo Tryton. Con más de 30 horas de capacitación, miembros del personal administrativo e informático de FLACSO participaron de una semana de training in-company en las áreas técnicas y funcionales de la plataforma.

Dentro de los temas abordados estuvo la gestión de entidades y de stock, procedimientos de facturación, creación e instalación de módulos y la sintaxis del sistema, incluyendo las distintas vistas de la interfaz. 


Sebastián Marró (Área Técnica) e Ignacio Parszyk (Área Funcional) impartieron los cursos sobre Tryton.
Tryton. Trytones un sistema de planificación de recursos empresariales o ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) que integra y articula diversos negocios relacionados con las operaciones de producción y distribución de una compañía, sobre todo en sus actividades de producción de bienes y servicios. La base de Tryton es modular y personalizable según las necesidades de la compañía, ya que contiene distintas funcionalidades, entre ellas: persistencia de datos, administración de usuarios (autenticación, control detallado de acceso a los datos, manejo concurrente de recursos) y motores de reportes. Además, permite la realización de workflows, servicios web e internacionalización.


Thymbra. La empresa Thymbra ofrece capacitaciones no sólo en Tryton, sino también en el software libre GNU Health, destinado para la gestión hospitalaria y la información de la salud.

I'm proud to announce the release of GNU Health version 2.2.0 !

New functionality, bug fixes and  new modules (Dengue and Diagnostic Imaging Tests ). Improvements in Surgery, appointments and patient evaluations, among others.

The development process for the next version (2.4) will focus on the upcoming Tryton 3.0.

"La Perla del Norte", pionera del software libre

Quinta ciudad más poblada de Chile, Antofagasta sería la cuna de la primera implementación de software libre en un centro de salud en ese país. La Clínica Cumbres del Norte de Antofagasta recibió a un equipo de Thymbra para capacitarse en los aspectos funcionales y técnicos de Tryton y GNU Health. 
















El pasado mes de julio la clínica había iniciado sus pruebas con ambas plataformas, y tanto el personal administrativo, como los trabajadores del área de salud, reconocieron la idoneidad de ambos sistemas para sus necesidades institucionales.

En diálogo con el portal Aukin,el ingeniero de sistemas Víctor Gallego, miembro del grupo a cargo de la migración a GNU Health, comentó: “Este es un primer paso y las potencialidades son inmensas para el país, sobre todo para las comunidades”. Para él, “este es un rubro donde uno puede impulsar cambios y dejar de alimentar un sistema injusto”.

Por su parte, Ricardo Astudillo, asesor en GNU/Linux y parte del equipo, afirmó estar “muy contento por estos acontecimientos” y extendió la invitación al resto del país para "sumarse a este lindo proyecto de migrar las Clínicas y Hospitales chilenos” al Software Libre. 
Los procesos de mercantilización de la salud en Latinoamérica han tenido un especial impacto en este país transandino, por lo que muchos centros  enfrentan hoy enormes dificultades para cumplir con los precios siderales de las licencias corporativas. Astudillo decía al respecto: “la cantidad de dinero que se puede ahorrar en licencias informáticas es astronómica, y se mide literalmente en millones de dólares. Lo que pudiera significar una mejoría importante en el ámbito de la salud pública”.

Ante esta realidad y con miras a su expansión en el 2014, la Clínica Cumbres del Norte emprendió su búsqueda por un sistema informático eficiente, integral, y con la estabilidad y adaptabilidad suficientes para soportar los cambios venideros. 
"Después de mucha averiguación y discusión interna, la dirección médica y administrativa de la empresa optó por el camino del Software Libre, aunque no existe experiencia previa en Chile en este ámbito", indicó el portal Aukin.

Al final de la semana de training, los equipos local y visitante se mostraron más que satisfechos con la experiencia.

  • Esta ciudad y puerto al norte chileno es la zona minera por excelencia. En los últimos 30 años ha mostrado un desarrollo a pasos agigantados, no sólo en términos urbanos, sino también en rubros como la construcción, el comercio y la hotelería.

Tryton version 3.0 released !

We are happy to announce the 3.0 release of Tryton.

This release brings a new calendar view for the graphical user interface and sees the result of a large refactoring of the code started 2 years ago with the project python-sql. But also as usual there are many bug-fixes, improvements and new modules (see below).
Of course, migration from previous series is fully supported.

Major changes in graphical user interface

  • A calendar view is now available. It allows to display records on a calendar using a start and/or an end date/datetime fields. It supports the Drag & Drop of events and the edition on double-click. The view is optimized to fetch only the events displayed.

  • The URL scheme, introduced in 2.0, is now accessible at the bottom of all tabs. This URL allows to open the same tab on any other client.

  • The request has been removed. It is suggested to use emails with URL instead.
  • The selected records in list view is remembered between sessions.

Major changes on the server side

  • The server uses now python-sql to generate the SQL queries. This change brings a better compatibility with all the different Databases currently supported (and also with the future ones).
  • The searchermethod can now return a full domain (instead of one limited to AND clause only).
  • The older order_fieldattribute is replaced by method order_<field name> to be more modular.
  • The database backend can be loaded dynamically which means it is possible to define one in a external package of trytond.
  • The performance of MPTT storage has been improved by removing the default order and reducing the number of queries.
  • A new attribute grouped can be added on the data tag. It allows to create all the records of the same Model at once. This improves the installation time of modules with large sets of data.
  • It is possible to define a default order on the Action Window.

Modules

  • Many modules have been adapted to a new design to link generated documents with their origin. Instead of copying the code of the origin as reference, a Reference field is used and most of the time the field is on the lines. This brings a better vision of the links between documents without loosing information when merge of documents occurs.

Account

  • A new wizard appears to ease the creation of the balance move for non-deferral accounts at the end of the fiscal year.
  • All accounts of a chart must always be in the same company. This constraint improves drastically the performance of computing the debit/credit.
  • Any move posted with one line of zero is automatically reconciled if it is on an account to reconcile. With this feature, invoices with amount of zero are automatically marked as paid.
  • The centralised counterpart option on journal has been removed.

Account Invoice

  • Once an invoice is posted, the account move is used to show the amounts instead of computing it from the lines. This improves a little bit the performance especially for invoices with a lot of lines.

Account Statement

  • Now it is possible to directly set an invoice on a statement line. This will fill the party and account automatically.

Stock

  • It is now possible to query the stock quantity with any kind of grouping parameters. For example, it can be used to compute the stock quantity of a lot instead of a product.
  • The code of inventory has been reworked to allow easy customization of the move creation and also of the unique constraint on the inventory lines.
  • The period cache can now be adapted to cache different kind of grouped quantities.

Stock Lot

  • The quantity and forecast quantity fields have been added on lot.
  • It is now possible to create inventories with lot.
  • The period cache stores also the quantities per lot.

Stock Supply

  • A new wizard appears to create automatically internal shipments.
  • If there are late supplier moves when creating purchase requests, the wizard shows a warning to allow the user to change the date of those moves into the future if needed otherwise those incoming moves will be ignored.

New modules

  • The Bank module defines the concept of bank and account.
  • The Account Dunning module allows to manage the dunning following a procedure with different levels.
  • The Account Dunning Letter module adds the generation of a letter when processing dunnings.
  • The Sale Invoice Grouping module adds an option to define how invoice lines generated from sales will be grouped.

Tryton Unconference Barcelona #TUB2013

For the third consecutive year now, Thymbra will attend the Tryton Unconference. This edition will be hosted at the city of Barcelona on November 7th - 10th, 2013.

A tradition and an unyielding duty, Free Software keeps growing amongst various community-based project, as Luis Falcón wrote some time ago:
... When I talk about Free Software, I talk not only about freedom, but also community and good will from the software author. The latter is probably the most important one... 
... You write Free Software because you want to contribute to the community. It's an act of social activism. It's about sharing and helping out.

...So, a word of advice: make sure you use Free Software. This is more than just a license. They should be community-based projects.... (Source)

Therefore we decided to cooperate and contribute with Tryton, among other institutions, and all together we decided to create a Foundation.


In contrast to their parent project and other open-source business software, the Tryton founders avoided creating a partner network, which tends to generate confrontation and duality between  partners and the community of volunteers. They followed the PostgreSQL example instead, where the project is driven by a federation of companies.[6]

As of December 2012, the project is supported by TRYTON, a Belgian private foundation, selflessly pursuing a rather noble cause. The foundation's missions are:[7]
  •     Develop and support conferences, meetings and community activities
  •     Hold and administer the tryton.org infrastructure
  •     Organize the community of supporters
  •     Manage and promote the Tryton trademark

The release process is based on series. Simply stated, series is a set of releases with the same two first numbers (e.g. 1.0 or 1.2), that share the same API and the same database scheme. A new series appears every six months and new versions in older releases are introduced when bugfixes are available.[8] (Source Wikipedia)

La Tryton Unconference 2013 dejó nuevas bisagras

Ningún proyecto serio de software libre sobrevive sin su comunidad, y Tryton no es la excepción. Amén de esto, cada año se organiza la TrytonUnconference (TU), que busca abrir un espacio de discusión y unir los distintos proyectos activos en la comunidad.

Para esta edición, la cita fue en la Ciudad Condal, Barcelona, gracias a una impecable organización de la empresa catalana NaN-Tic.
Entre el 7 y el 10 de noviembre, profesionales de diversos ámbitos viajaron desde Alemania, España, Suiza, Francia, Bélgica, India, Estados Unidos, Argentina y Brasil para participar del evento y compartir sus experiencias.

Dentro de los expositores estuvieron Sebastián Marró y Luis Falcón, ambos representantes de Thymbra. Por su parte, el equipo de Gcoop también engrosó las filas de la delegación argentina. Ambas instituciones aprovechamos la ocasión para estrechar lazos profesionales y continuar progagando el uso de Tryton en la Argentina.

Había una gran expectativa en torno a la #TUB2013, en particular por la nueva versión Tryton 3.0 y el futuro de la plataforma. La presentación oficial estuvo a cargo de Cédric Krier (B2CK, Bélgica), fundador y principal desarrollador de Tryton.

Además, se dieron a conocer tanto nuevas implementaciones y usos de Tryton, como sus posibilidades de interactividad con otros sistemas o plataformas. Entre ellos, se impartió un workshop sobre la herramienta Nereid (OpenLabs), un framework de desarrollo web para Python basado en Tryton. A través de Nereid, Tryton y Flask se pueden integrar de forma práctica y segura.


Durante la #TUB2013 se plantearon muchas preguntas, retos de interoperabilidad y bisagras en el futuro desarrollo de Tryton, pero sin duda hay una realidad más allá de esto: la comunidad continúa creciendo.

GNU Health version 2.4.0 is out !

Dear all

I'm proud to announce that GNU Health 2.4.0 is available to download.

After more than 3 months of work, the latest version bring the following
features, among others :

* Tryton 3.0 compatibility
* Real-time Pediatric Growth Charts reports
* Automatic Patient Critical Info display.
* WHO International Classification of Procedures in Medicine
* Add Italian as an official language
* Improved appointment management
* Signing medical documents (evaluations, surgeries, hospitalizations)
* Improved Neonatology module, and patient assignment to the newborn
* Include standard tags for pathology groups (such as "allergic" or
"infectious")

Many other "behind-the-scenes" activities have been conducted, such as
bugfixing, rewrite methods and classes, replace imaging libraries, ...

If you already have a GNU Health system in your health center, you
should upgrade it to 2.4.0

As always, the upgrade path is included in GNU Health. The upgrade for
version 2.4.0 is pretty straight forward :

1) Follow the Upgrade Instructions in the Wikibook

2) Run the script provided on the directory gnuhealth-2.4.0/scripts/2.4
to update the modules model. Read the README file.

** Official Languages.

We have English, French, Italian and Spanish as the official languages.
The language packs of the official languages are included in the GNU
Health package, with all the modules, so there is no need to download.
There are over 80 GNU Health language teams in Transifex. If you are a
language maintainer and want to include your language for the next
stable release, please send us a mail to health@gnusolidario.org .

** About GNU Health Patchsets **
We provide "patchsets" to stable releases (with even minor number). This
allows quick bug fixes and updates for production systems.

Patches and Patchsets maximize uptime for production systems, and keep
your system updated, without the need to do a whole installation. Some
of them, and thanks to the magic of Tryton can be applied to running system.

Patchsets are installed on previously installed systems. For new
installations, download the regular package (ie, gnuhealth-2.4.1.tar.gz)

Marzo, el mes de la formación en GNU Health

Por primera vez en lo que transcurre del año, Thymbra abre una semana especial con descuentos(*) en sus capacitaciones técnicas y funcionales.

Desde el lunes 17 y hasta el viernes 21 de marzo, nuestros docentes impartirán los contenidos completos de nuestras reconocidas academias de GNU Health.

La capacitación funcional está prevista para que nuestros estudiantes aprendan a instalar GNU Health y configurar desde cero un ambiente hospitalario. Además, se busca internalizar los distintos procesos de actividad cotidiana en la institución y cómo interactúan con el software.

En el caso de la academia técnica, apunta a conocer el entorno de desarrollo en GNU Health y Tryton, crear e integrar nuevos módulos y contar con las herramientas para localizar el software en una eventual implementación.

Más que un software, GNU Health es un proyecto colectivo y de alcance internacional. Desde el Hospital Listeren Entre Ríos, Argentina, hasta el Centro de Rehabilitación Médica en Vientiane, Laos, GNU Health se ha adaptado a las necesidades más particulares de los centros de salud.

Además, en septiembre de 2013 el Ministerio de Salud de Jamaica optó por esta plataforma para su sistema de salud pública a nivel nacional.
